First, a huge thanks to Mendon for playing us, and a thanks to the Fairport players who were able to make it.
I think the final score had us up by one, but no one was really keeping track too closely.
Being our first game action of the year, and with no one playing any ultimate since at least early August, and many people not since June, I don't think there's much of a point to totally pick everything apart. But there are a few things that I can still address.
1) Mendon had great intensity and instinct getting to the disc, both on O and D. Ours was very lacking. This needs to improve against Irondequoit to say the least.
2) The weather was a bit cold and rainy, but that's just part of ultimate in Rochester. Invest in long-sleeved Under Armour (or a similar product) and some sort of warm track pants. Bringing extra socks to a wet game isn't a bad idea either. And lacking cleats, especially when it's wet, is just a recipe for disaster. But that said, we also have to be skill-ready for cold/rain too. It's normal to lose some deep throw ability, but our short game can't afford to take a hit.
The weather on Friday is probably going to be even colder and wetter. Please prepare appropriately!
3) Please take the time to call people so we can have a better turnout on Friday. Being without subs also hurt us.
4) Decision-making needs to be improved. We had WAY too many turnovers at or near the end zone. This is mostly due to non-handler wings forcing the disc in ways that they just don't have skill yet. Practicing dumps before the game on Friday would be a good thing.
I'll leave it at that for now. Enjoy Thanksgiving, and I hope to see you all on Friday.
Please feel free to reply to this post if you want to have any discussion about the Mendon game, or the next one against Irondequoit.

Minor updates on scrimmages over break
Wednesday, November 26, 1:15PM at Thornell Farm Park against The Mendon Horde. We are going to have a short practice at 1:15 to shake off some of the rust, and then play Mendon at 2:30.
Friday, November 28, 12:30PM at Center Park against the Irondequoit Landskarks. Again, we're going to have a short practice at 1:30 and then the actual time for the scrimmage is 1:30.
Here is a map for Thornell Farm Park, if you're not familiar with how to get there.

Obviously, dress for the cool weather, bring discs, and have a white shirt and a dark shirt to throw over the top. Please do what you can to make sure that everyone knows about these dates and times!!!!

Thanksgiving break scrimmages!
Keep these time slots open!
We are tentatively planning on playing an "away" game at The Mendon Horde on Wednesday after the half-day of school (November 25). Just make sure that we've got carpooling figured out.
Also, we've got a "home" game at Center Park against the Irondequoit Landsharks on Friday, November 27 at about 1:30.
Both of these teams, though graduating almost full rosters since the spring, still feature underclassmen that some may recognize from BlueREY and these two teams have also been practicing regularly throughout the fall. So we better shake off the rust and come out strong -- first games as the Bipolar Bears -- let's do it up!
This is also a great time to get our new players out on the field and see what we've got going into the spring. Please invite anyone and everyone to play in these games. No fundamentally huge commitment is required at this time.
